The IAOMS/ALACIBU NextGen Online Conference is pleased to welcome our 2022 speakers and moderators. Each day of the conference will consist of six back-to-back sessions with presentations by master surgeons from across the specialty as well as the next generation of young OMF surgeons.

Felix J. Amarista

About the Speaker 

Dr. Amarista is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Dr. Felix Amarista is originally from Caracas, Venezuela. He received his D.D.S. at Central University of Venezuela (UCV) where he graduated with honors in 2011. After receiving his dental degree, he completed an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at Bogota Central Military Hospital – Nueva Granada Military University in 2018. Upon graduation, he was awarded as “Best Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Resident in Latin America” by the Latin American Association of Traumatology and Bucomaxillofacial Surgery (ALACIBU). Dr. Amarista joined the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UT Health San Antonio in 2018 to continue his education in the US and completed his residency in 2021. He has published several scientific articles in the OMS field, is committed to improving patient care through research, and is passionate about teaching and pursuing an academic career.

About the Speaker 

Dr. Callahan is an Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at University of Illinois Chicago. Most recently, Dr. Callahan completed a Fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Maryland at Baltimore Medical Center. He received his medical school education and General Surgery training at SUNY Downstate, and his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York. He attended the University of Pittsburgh School, of Dental Medicine for his dental school training, and also received his Masters of Public Health degree at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health.

Dr. Jose Antonio Garcia Piña got his Dental Degree at the UPAEP, in Puebla, Mexico graduated with honors and obtained the 1st place of his country (MEXICO) in their National board for dental examination in 2007, after dental school he made an Externship in the OMFS program at the UTH University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He finished his OMS residence in 2013 in Mexico City in Hospital Regional Lic. Adolfo Lopez Mateos, ISSSTE graduated with honors and achieved the 1st place in the Mexican Board Exam for Maxillofacial Surgeons. From 2013-2015 he made A fellowship in Rhino- Maxillofacial surgery at the medical school of the UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) with complete dedication to nose and facial aesthetic surgery. Since 2015 he co-founded a fellowship course for Maxillofacial surgeons with a 1 year duration dedicated only to teach nose and facial aesthetic surgery having fellows from all Latin-America. In 2017 he spend some months in Sidney Australia with Dr. Paul Lloyd Getty Coceancig to learn Inter-Molar Mandibular Distraction Osteogenesis technique. Nowadays he is professor of Orthognathic surgery in the Orthodontic post-graduate course at UPAEP in Puebla, Mexico, professor of Rhinoplasty and facial aesthetic surgery in the fellowship course at the medical school of UNAM and invited professor in the fellowship course of pediatric Maxillofacial and Craneofacial surgery at the Hospital del Niño Morelense in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Dr. Ghali has lived and practiced in Shreveport, Louisiana since 1995. He and his wife, Hope, have four children. Dr. Ghali’s practice spans the full scope of oral & craniomaxillofacial surgery. His professional interest lies in the treatment of pediatric craniofacial deformities including craniosynostosis, cleft lip and palate, and dentofacial deformities. However, his surgical and teaching interests also include cosmetic surgery, head and neck oncology, and maxillofacial trauma. Dr. Ghali served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (2004-2021), Dean of LSU School of Medicine (2016-2018), and Chancellor of LSU Health Sciences Center (2016-2021). He has been very active in resident, fellow, and student education. Dr. Ghali has continued to serve in leadership positions in national and international organizations such as the ACS, AAOMS, ABOMS, and IAOMS. Dr. Ghali’s association with these organizations is recognized in shaping the profession of oral and maxillofacial surgery, as well as providing international recognition for this community.
