The IAOMS/ALACIBU NextGen Online Conference will take place May 9-13, 2022 from 7:00PM - 9:30PM CST. This five-day program will include live presentations along with question and answer opportunities. Each session includes presentations from master surgeons followed by the next generation of young surgeons from all across the specialty.

Description:

Short and ultra short implants have historically been associated with a poor prognosis in implant-supported oral rehabilitations. Over the years and advances in implantology, they have become a common treatment in daily practice, obtaining success rates that are have recently increased to almost match conventional implants.

Learning Objectives:

-The need to reduce work times, economic costs and intraoperative morbidity makes it necessary to add them to our rehabilitation options. For this, it is necessary to know their applications, when not to use them and choose the intrasinusal graft, and of course, the correct selection of the patient.

Treatment of mandible condyle fractures has been controversial. In this presentation, we aim to provide an evidence-based approach to determine the treatment of choice: Open or Closed while discussing the indications, contraindications, advantages and disadvantages for each approach.

Treatment Considerations for Implant Rehabilitation in Resected and Reconstructed Jaws presented by Benjie Law Zi Yuan (Malaysia)

Description

This presentation discusses on both the biological and technical considerations in rehabilitation of post ablative and reconstructed jaws with dental implants. Clinical cases of implants rehabilitation in oral cancer patients following ablative jaw surgeries and radiation therapy, and the use of dental implants in reconstructed jaws with fibula free flaps will be discussed.

Description

Intraoperative navigation enables the clinician to see the placement of his instrument on the 3D dataset of the patient during real-time surgery. The use of intraoperative navigation for dental implants has increased the accuracy and precision as well as communication with the restorative dentist.

Short Low Sagital Ramus Osteotomy , Versatality of Applications presented by Dr. Mohamed Ghanem (Egypt)

Description:

Sagittal split osteotomy is the most commonly used osteotomy of the mandible in orthognathic surgery. Many modifications have been suggested for the technique originally described by Obwegeser, in this talk we will present the short low cut described by Prof. Posnik in details and discuss the technique and its applications, indications, risks and benefits, demonstrating different challenging cases and unique indications.

Adjunctive Procedures to Enhance Orthognathic Surgery Results presented by Dr. Jose Antonio Garcia Piña (Mexico)

Session Overview 

Description

Orthognathic surgery has profound effects on facial physiology and anatomy, the patients with dentofacial deformities usually have alterations in other facial structures such as the nose, ears, mandibular angles, and zygomatic areas. As maxillofacial surgeons we should be able to diagnose and treat these other facial areas with the proper surgical training. The lecture will show with some cases the effects of facial fat grafting, custom peek implants, otoplasty, rhinoplasty, buccal fat pad removal and submental liposuction as adjunctive procedures to enhance orthognathic surgery results.

Minimally Invasive Treatment for Temporomandibular Joint Disorders presented by Dr. Ming-Yi Lu (Taiwan)

Application of minimally invasive treatment to TMJ could be an option for patients with failure of conservative management. Single-needle arthrocentesis followed by intra-articular injection with hyaluronic acid is a safe and effective method.

TMJ Customized Prosthesis in the Treatment of Severe OSAHS and Bilateral Ankylosis Since Childhood presented by Dr. Daniel Nastri de Luca (Brazil)

Session Overview 

This case reports a sequela from a fall with trauma to the chin in childhood that was not adequately treated. The patient evolved with bilateral TMJ fractures and conservative treatment, progressing to ankylosis and some attempts with conventional surgical interventions, resulting in recurrences and retrognathia. The case was solved with the installation of customized complete dentures and mandibular advancement.

Learning Objectives:

To show that the most adequate treatment for TMJ ankylosis is the installation of a complete denture.
