About the Moderator
Prof Dr Drhc. Julio Acero is Head of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the Ramon y Cajal University and the Puerta de Hierro University Hospitals in Madrid, Spain, Full Professor of Maxillofacial Surgery at the Alcala University of Madrid He studied Medicine and Dentistry and obtained his PhD at the university in Madrid. Dr. Acero was Research Fellow at the Spanish National Institute of Health and Fellow of the Council of Europe in Germany as well as Fellow of the European Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Fellow Ad eundem of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Member of the Spanish National Academy of Dental Sciences . His special fields of interest are oncologic and reconstructive surgery of the head and neck and salivary gland pathology, as well as bone regeneration.
He has lectured and published widely in these fields and has been appointed as invited Professor in different universities around the world including the official appointments of Honorary Professor at the University of Ferrara (Italy), the University of Belgrade (Serbia) and the University of Bucharest (Romania), Visiting Professor at the University of Florida in Jacksonville (USA) and Doctor Honoris Causa (University of Iasi, Romania). Honorary Member of the OMFS Societies of Argentina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Turkey and Macedonia. IAOMS Outstanding Committee Member Award presented in the ICOMS, Shanghai 2009, Humanitarian Award of the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, presented in Puerto Rico 2016.
President of the IAOMS 2016-2017, past Director of the Fellowships Committee of the IAOMS, Past Chairman of the IAOMS Education Committee, Dr. Acero was the Education and Training Officer of the European Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, currently President of the European Association. Past Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Past-President of the Spanish Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has been organizing and coordinating international educational programmes in OMF Surgery throughout the world: Eastern Europe (Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Skopje), Latin America (Peru, Paraguay, El Salvador), Asia ( Indonesia, Philippines) and Africa (Kenya, Tanzania,Nigeria)

Dr. Payam Afzali is a Board Certified Clinical Professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and is the Chairman of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) Residency Program at Highland Hospital, the only level one trauma center in Oakland, California. He earned his Dental Degree (DDS) at Columbia University in New York, as well as both his OMFS Residency Certificate and Medical Degree (MD) at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA). He completed postgraduate training in both Head and Neck Microvascular Surgery and Pediatric Craniomaxillofacial Surgery. Dr. Afzali has participated in over 30 volunteer humanitarian missions both nationally and internationally. He has held multiple leadership positions in the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and is the current North American Co-Representative to the NextGen Committee of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS). He is an Author and Co-Author of multiple book chapters and articles in national and international journals. Dr. Afzali is interested in full scope OMFS, with specific fields of interest in global health, oncology, trauma and pediatric craniofacial surgery.

Grace Chen is an oral & maxillofacial surgeon from Taiwan. She obtained her Master’s of Dentistry at Kaoshiung Medical University in 2006. She completed her residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery in 2011 at China Medical University Hospital, where she is currently an attending physician in the department of OMS. She did a short training in sleep surgery at Stanford University Hospital in 2018. Her daily practice is focused on OgS and sleep surgery. Dr Lau held the position of the President of the Hong Kong Association of OMS since 2016 and he is currently the Immediate Past President. He is also the founder and Past President of Young Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Group of Hong Kong. Currently, he is also appointed as the Chairman of the NextGen section and an Executive Committee member of the IAOMS . He serves as a Councilor of both the Asian and International Association of OMS. He also holds the position of Vice President of Hong Kong Society of Sedation and Anesthesia in Dentistry and committee member of Young Dentist Group of HKDA and an International Faculty of AOCMF. He Serves as a Hong Kong Dental Council examiner and a trainer in OMS for the College of Dental Surgeons of Hong Kong. Dr. Ludwing Manuel Alfredo Mendez Fuentes is from El Salvador, Central America. He graduated as a dentistry at Evangelical University from El Salvador, 2004. Dr. Andrew Read-Fuller is Clinical Assistant Professor and Residency Program Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Texas A&M College of Dentistry. He received his certificate in oral and maxillofacial surgery from UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2017 and is certified by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In 2018, Dr. Read-Fuller was awarded the Faculty Educator Development Award by AAOMS for his dedication to postdoctoral education in OMS. Dr. Salvador Soto is a dentist surgeon by the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico from 2006-2011. He completed an oral and maxillofacial surgery residence at Centro Medico lic. Adolfo Lopez Mateos by the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico from 2014-2018. Dr. Soto is certified by the Mexican Council of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a member of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service of the Center of Odontological Specialties of the Imiem (instituto materno infantil del estado de mexico). Dr. Soto is also an assistant professor in the Faculty of Dentistry of the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico.

Dr. Joan Wan is a current higher trainee in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in the University of Hong Kong. She graduated in 2015, worked as Junior Hospital Dental Officer (OMFS) in Prince Philip Dental Hospital from 2015-2016. After 2 years of general practice, she started her studies in Master of Dental Surgery in OMFS in 2018. She is also the current president of the Young Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons Group of Hong Kong (YOMSHK). She is researching with her colleagues on accuracy of virtually designed patient-specific guides and plates for orthognathic patients.
